Chapter 8 - The Thorne Family’s Secret VaultThe Thorne estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, was a sprawling stone fortress surrounded by ten-foot iron gates and private security guards.

At 6:00 AM, the gates offered no resistance.

Damian’s convoy breached the perimeter with legal warrants obtained within thirty minutes from a federal judge whose family had been protected by the Blackwoods for three decades. Alongside our convoy were six unmarked black sedans carrying federal prosecutors and forensic accountants from the Southern District of New York.

We stepped into the grand marble foyer of the Thorne mansion, where Harold Thorne—the seventy-two-year-old patriarch of the family—stood at the foot of a curved staircase in a velvet dressing gown.

His face was ashen, his hands trembling as he stared at the federal agents securing his private art gallery.

“Blackwood!” Harold barked, trying to maintain an air of aristocratic indignation. “What is the meaning of this illegal invasion? My lawyers will have you disbarred and imprisoned before midday!”

Damian walked down the center of the foyer, his boots clicking rhythmically on the checkerboard marble. Behind him walked Gabriel, carrying a portable speaker and a stack of printed banking manifests.

“Your son Julian has already signed his confession, Harold,” Damian said calmly. “Dr. Mercer was intercepted at JFK Airport trying to board a private flight to Zurich. He traded his deposition for immunity thirty minutes ago.”

Harold swayed on his feet, reaching out to grasp the polished mahogany banister for support.

“You... you have no legal basis to seize our private assets,” Harold whispered, the fight draining from his eyes like water from a broken vessel.

Damian pulled out the leather ledger retrieved from the Peekskill box.

“This ledger documents six years of systematic money laundering, corporate espionage, and federal murder-for-hire,” Damian said, his voice ringing through the vaulted hallway. “The Blackwood syndicate is exercising its right of total forfeiture under the interstate maritime compact. As of five minutes ago, every bank account, every cargo vessel, and every real estate holding bearing the Thorne name belongs to the Alyssa Blackwood Memorial Trust.”

Seraphina appeared at the top of the staircase, wearing a hastily thrown-on trench coat, her eyes red and swollen from crying.

She looked down and saw me standing beside Damian, the sapphire necklace glittering brilliantly against my chest.

A gasp of pure, venomous agony escaped her lips.

“You...” Seraphina hissed, pointing a shaking finger at me. “You stole my life! You were supposed to be cleaning pantry shelves!”

I looked up at her from the foot of the stairs, my voice calm, steady, and clear.

“I didn't steal your life, Seraphina. You gave it away when you traded Alyssa’s breath for a bank balance.”

Two federal marshals stepped onto the stairs, producing steel handcuffs.

“Seraphina Thorne, Harold Thorne,” the lead agent announced. “You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, federal racketeering, and obstruction of justice.”

As the marshals escorted the Thorne family down the steps and out into the waiting cruisers, Damian turned to me.

“It’s over, Maya,” he said softly.

“Yes,” I whispered, a tear of profound relief slipping down my cheek. “It’s finally over.”
