Chapter 11 - Blood on the Marble Floors

Three weeks later, the grand council chamber in Milan convened for the formal redistribution of northern syndicate territories.
Seated at the center of the high tribunal table were the senior capos of Italy, dressed in formal black suits.
Alessandro sat at the head of the Barsotti delegation, commanding total respect and reverence from every boss in attendance.
And seated directly beside him, dressed in an exquisite royal-blue tailored gown with diamonds glittering at her wrists, was me—Clara Evans.
Elder Capo Moretti rose from his seat, unrolling an ancient parchment scroll bearing the wax seals of the High Syndicate Tribunal.
“Before this assembly,” Moretti proclaimed, his voice echoing through the vaulted hall, “we formally ratify the complete dissolution of the Vance syndicate. All banking channels, port authorities, and commercial assets are hereby permanently deeded to Alessandro Barsotti and Clara Evans.”
Moretti looked at me, bowing his head in profound, respectful acknowledgment.
“Miss Evans, for your courage in preserving the honor of the founding families and delivering justice for Elena Barsotti, the council awards you the Golden Falcon Medal of Honor and lifetime immunity under syndicate law.”
The forty syndicate commanders stood as one, applauding with thunderous approval.
For nine months, I had been an invisible ghost scrubbing their spilled wine; today, the most dangerous men in Europe bowed their heads before me in absolute deference.
When the formal proceedings concluded, Alessandro and I returned to Villa Barsotti in our armored motorcade.
As we stepped into the grand foyer, we were greeted not by cold guards, but by the entire domestic staff of sixty maids, chefs, and gardeners, standing in two neat rows along the marble staircase.
Standing at the front of the staff, dressed in an immaculate black tailcoat and holding his polished brass cane, was Silvio De Luca. His health had made a miraculous recovery, his posture upright and proud once more.
“Welcome home, Master Alessandro,” Silvio said with a deep, graceful bow. “Welcome home, Miss Clara.”
I walked forward and embraced the elderly bodyguard warmly, tears of joy shining in my eyes. “Thank you, Silvio. Thank you for everything.”

“The house is finally at peace, my dear,” Silvio whispered, patting my hand gently. “Elena’s spirit is smiling upon us today.”
