Chapter 15 - The Queen of Lake Como

Six months later, the bells of the historic cathedral in Como rang out in a joyous, triumphant chorus that echoed across the entire lake.
It was our wedding day.
Over three hundred guests filled the ancient stone cathedral—dignitaries, community leaders, syndicate allies, and domestic staff from across the country.
Walking down the aisle on the proud arm of my brother Leo, I wore an exquisite, hand-stitched ivory lace gown with a cathedral train that swept across the marble floor. Around my neck hung the sapphire pendant, and on my finger sparkled Elena’s ancestral emerald.
At the altar stood Alessandro, breathtakingly handsome in his bespoke black tuxedo, watching me approach with tears of awe in his dark eyes.
Beside him, serving as his best man, was Silvio De Luca, dressed in his finest ceremonial uniform, smiling with radiant pride.
When Leo placed my hand into Alessandro’s, Alessandro leaned down and whispered softly against my ear:
“You are my home, Clara. Today, tomorrow, and forever.”
“And you are mine, Alessandro,” I replied with a radiant smile.
We exchanged our vows beneath the vaulted stone ceilings, sealing our sacred union with a kiss that brought the entire congregation to its feet in a standing ovation that shook the cathedral walls.
That evening, the wedding gala at Villa Barsotti was a celebration unlike anything the northern syndicate had ever witnessed.
There were no whispers of treason, no hidden blades, and no fear.
The grand ballroom glittered beneath cascading chandeliers, filled with the warmth of true loyalty, joyous laughter, and the clinking of crystal glasses.
As midnight approached, Alessandro and I slipped away from the ballroom, walking hand in hand out onto the private terrace where we had shared our first real conversation.
The dark waters of Lake Como shimmered under a full moon, the cool alpine breeze rustling the leaves of the old olive trees.
Alessandro wrapped his arms around me from behind, resting his hands gently over mine upon the stone balustrade, pulling me close against his chest.
“Are you happy, my queen?” he murmured softly against my hair.
I turned in his embrace, looking up into the dark, loving eyes of the man who had torn down an empire of lies to protect me.
“I have never been happier, Alessandro,” I smiled, resting my hands on his lapels. “The scullery maid is gone. And the House of Barsotti is finally whole.”
Alessandro leaned down and kissed me tenderly beneath the silver light of the moon, as the gentle waves of Lake Como lapped peacefully against the shore below.
