Chapter 13 - The Awakening of Clara

With the syndicate wars officially concluded, Alessandro and I dedicated our energy to transforming the Barsotti empire into a force for legitimate prosperity and philanthropy.
Under my direction, the secret Swiss trust established by Elena Barsotti was repurposed into the Elena & Clara Foundation, providing educational scholarships, legal aid, and housing support for underprivileged families across northern Italy.
Leo was thriving in Genoa, managing our commercial maritime operations with sharp intelligence and integrity, frequently visiting the villa on weekends with his new fiancée, a lovely young marine biologist named Sophia.
One crisp spring morning, Alessandro invited me to accompany him down into the west catacombs—the very place where our journey had begun.
The damp, gloomy crypt had been completely transformed. The crumbling limestone walls had been carefully restored with historic Roman masonry, warm amber sconces illuminated the vaulted ceilings, and a beautiful memorial chapel had been consecrated at the far end of the corridor.
Above an altar of pure white Carrara marble hung an oil portrait of Elena Barsotti, her gentle smile and dark eyes looking down upon us with serene grace.
Beside her portrait hung a newly commissioned painting: a portrait of me, dressed in my simple maid’s apron, holding Silvio’s cryptographic key in one hand and Alessandro’s hand in the other.
“Why did you have this painted, Alessandro?” I asked, tears of wonder touching my eyes.

“To remind everyone who walks this house that true royalty is not born from titles or gold,” Alessandro answered, turning to face me. “True royalty is born from the courage to do what is right when the whole world is watching in silence.”
