Chapter 9 - The Ultimatum in the Study

The grand grandfather clock in my private estate study struck midnight, the heavy chimes echoing through the darkened room like funeral bells. Outside, the storm was raging with renewed fury, lashing heavy sheets of rain against the reinforced French doors. I stood by the fireplace, swirling a glass of single-malt scotch, watching the amber liquid catch the hearth fire. Behind me, tied securely to a high-backed mahogany chair, Arthur sat slumped over, his suit wrinkled, his spirit completely broken after the federal marshals finished processing his arrest warrant. The rest of the board had capitulated within minutes, unanimously signing over their voting shares to me under the gentle persuasion of my legal team. The empire was entirely mine—absolute, centralized, and untouchable. The heavy study door clicked open, and Marcus stepped inside, water dripping from his trench coat. “The federal transport just cleared the private gates, boss,” Marcus reported. “Arthur and his associates are on their way to a secure federal holding facility. No bail, no trial leaks.” I took a slow sip of my scotch. “And Vivian?” Marcus paused for a fraction of a second. “Locked in the East Wing guest suite under 24-hour guard, per your instructions.” I set my glass down on the mantel with a sharp clink, turning slowly to face my cowering cousin. “You had everything, Arthur,” I said quietly. “A seat at the table, multi-million-dollar dividends, a dynasty built on generations of blood and sweat. And you threw it all away because of greed.” I gestured dismissively to Marcus. “Take him away.”
