Chapter 12 - The Cleansing Fire and the Last Shadow of the Solovov Syndicate

With Marcus Reed in chains and the mercenaries neutralized, the true extent of the conspiracy was laid bare across the mahogany desk in Dante’s private study.
Ledgers, encrypted flash drives, and offshore account numbers revealed that Marcus had been funneling syndicate secrets to rival factions for months, hoping to fracture the Moretti empire from within so he could claim the ashes.
But Dante Moretti did not leave loose ends.
By sunrise, Victor and his tactical units had dismantled the Solovov safehouses across Brooklyn and Queens. The Russian threat that had hung over New York like a dark cloud for two years was dismantled in a single, coordinated sweep before the city's stock exchange even opened for the day.
Inside the carriage house, the heavy scent of gunpowder had faded, replaced by the warmth of a freshly lit fireplace.
Elena sat on the edge of the cream velvet sofa, watching through the tall windows as the last of the tactical vehicles rolled out of the estate gates. Her hands were folded tightly in her lap, her shoulders tense with the nervous energy of someone who had spent years running from ghosts.
The heavy oak door opened softly.
Dante walked in. He had discarded his blood-stained suit jacket, his crisp white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, his expression unreadable.
“It’s over,” Dante said quietly, stopping a few feet away from her. “The council has ratified the internal purge. No one will ever question your safety, or Isla’s, within these walls again.”
Elena looked up at him, her eyes searching his face for any trace of the cold, unfeeling mafia boss the city feared. Instead, she saw something entirely different—the exhaustion of a man who had finally put down a burden he had carried for six long years.
“You didn't have to burn down your own courtyard to keep us safe,” Elena whispered.
“I would burn down all of Manhattan if it meant keeping what belongs to me,” Dante replied, his voice soft, carrying a depth of emotion that made her breath catch.
