Chapter 7 - The Blood Test That Shattered Six Years of Lies and Turned the Syndicate Upside Down

By noon, the rain had cleared, leaving a damp, heavy fog hanging over the Hudson River.
Inside the medical wing of the Moretti stronghold, Dr. Aris Thorne—a quiet, graying physician who had served the family for four decades—stood over a stainless steel counter with a centrifuge spinning quietly in the background.
Dante stood behind him, his arms crossed over his chest, watching the separation vials with eyes like chipped slate.
“The results are definitive, Mr. Moretti,” Dr. Thorne said quietly, his voice barely rising above the hum of the machine. He handed a crisp, printed lab report across the metal table.
Dante didn’t look at the paper immediately. He stared at the doctor. “Speak plainly, Aris.”
“The child, Isla Bennett... she is a genetic match to the tissue samples stored from your wife’s emergency file in 2020. More than a match, Dante. She is your biological daughter.”
The room seemed to tilt on its axis.
For six years, Dante had carried the crushing weight of grief, believing that both his wife and his unborn child had died on a cold hospital table. He had built an empire of iron and vengeance upon the grave of that double loss.
And now, the cold ink on the paper told him the hospital had lied. The death certificates had been fabricated. Someone within his own circle had smuggled the infant out of the maternity ward, handing her to a ghost named Elena Bennett while telling Dante a tragedy that never happened.
“Who signed the transfer order?” Dante’s voice dropped to a terrifying whisper.
Dr. Thorne swallowed hard, pointing a trembling finger at the bottom line of the second page.
